    Potential Usage of Rice Husk Ash-Cement Based Soil in Subbase and Base Courses in Road Construction

    This paper presents an experimental study of rice husk ash-cement-based soil for layers in roadway construction. Rice husk ash (RHA) used in this study is a by-product of rice milling. In this work, twelve proportion mixes were used in this work with varying quantities of RHA (0-30%) and Portland cement blended amounts of 4, 6, 8%. The specimens were prepared by the Proctor mould method, conditioned at room temperature, and tested in soaked and unsoaked conditions. Specified curing periods of 7, 14, 28 days were applied for all types of specimens. Some engineering tests were carried out such as proctor compaction, unconfined compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and the stiffness of stabilized soil. Test results indicated a general decrease in the maximum dry density (MDD) and increased optimum moisture content (OMC) with an increase in RHA content. Adding cement and RHA significantly improved the geotechnical properties of stabilized soils, including compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, elastic modulus. In addition, the combination of 80% soil and 20% RHA and 6% cement can be used as the optimum proportion which satisfied the grade 3 of soils stabilized with inorganic adhesive substances, chemical agents, or reinforced soil for road construction, as indicated in the current Vietnamese standard

In concern of increasing the performance for the sequence of online queries on long-term historical data, query caching with semantic organization, called Semantic Query Caching or Semantic Caching (SC), can play a vital role. SC is implemented mostly in software perspective without providing a generic description of modules or cache services in the given context. Hardware acceleration with FPGA opens new research directions to achieve better performance for SC.     In this paper, our aim was to examine the role of ENSO in the recent climate variations. Analyzed results on temporal variability of thermal fields in period of 38 years (Jan. 1979-Aug. 2016) showed that Ninh Thuan - Binh Thuan waters were subjected to the significant impact of the ENSO phases (warming and cooling) as well as other processes related to seasonal, inter-seasonal, yearly and mutlti-yearly variations such as in the periods 1986-1989, 1996-2000 and 2009-2011. In order to clarify above issues, authors carried out the analysis of the temporal -spatial changes of temperature fields (include air temperature and sea surface temperature) in Ninh Thuan - Binh Thuan region. The temperature data were exploited from The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) and Climate Forecast System Reanalysis (CFSR) in the form of hourly time-series products with spatial resolution of 0.3o (1979-2010) and 0.20o (2011-8/2016). The results showed that 2016 was quite similar to 1998 and 2010 when the coral bleaching occurred in the study area.Các kết quả phân tích trường nhiệt độ trong 38 năm (1/1979 - 8/2016) đã cho thấy vùng biển Ninh Thuận - Bình Thuận chịu sự tác động không nhỏ của các pha ENSO (ấm, lạnh) mà còn có liên quan đến các quá trình khác có chu kỳ mùa, liên mùa, năm, nhiều năm thể hiện tại các giai đoạn 1986-1989; 1996-2000 và 2009-2011. Để góp phần làm sáng tỏ vấn đề trên, chúng tôi đã tiến hành phân tích sự thay đổi nền nhiệt độ của nhiệt độ không khí, nhiệt độ nước bề mặt biển. Các số liệu nhiệt độ sử dụng trong nghiên cứu này được khai thác từ Hệ thống Dự đoán Khí hậu Phân tích lại (CFSR) theo bước thời gian 1 giờ với độ phân giải ngang 0,3° (1979-2010) và 0,2o (2011-8/2016) của Trung tâm Dự báo Môi trường Quốc gia Hoa Kỳ (NCEP). Kết quả phân tích cho thấy năm 2016 có nét khá tương đồng với năm 1998 và 2010, các năm được phát hiện đã xảy ra hiện tượng tẩy trắng san hô tại khu vực nghiên cứu

    This paper has focused on analyzing morphological change features of Nha Trang Beach based on the comparison of different beach profiles which were measured from July 2008 to September 2016 corresponding to the Northeast and Southwest monsoons. Additionally, the sediment transport balance was estimated by the method of equity value curve. Studied results show that the beach profiles were accreted and eroded during Southwest and Northeast monsoons respectively, but due to the shortage of materials supply, the beach has the narrowing trend. In this paper, some effects of the existing works in Nha Trang Beach such as Vinpearl, Navy Port, and hydro-dams in upstream area of Cai river have been also analyzed for estimating sedimentary supply to beach segments.Bài báo phân tích đặc điểm biến đổi hình thái địa hình bãi biển Nha Trang trên cơ sở so sánh các trắc diện địa hình bãi biển, với số liệu đo đạc từ tháng 7/2008 đến tháng 9/2016, cụ thể vào các thời kỳ gió mùa Đông Bắc và gió mùa Tây Nam tại các vị trí cố định. Đồng thời, cán cân trầm tích được tính toán và phân tích bằng phương pháp đường cong đẳng giá trị. Kết quả cho thấy, bãi biển được bồi tụ vào mùa gió Tây Nam và bị xói lở vào mùa gió Đông Bắc. Tuy nhiên, do thiếu hụt bồi tích nên bãi biển có xu thế thu hẹp. Bài báo còn phân tích một số ảnh hưởng của các công trình hiện diện tại bãi biển Nha Trang, như cầu cảng Vinpearl, cảng Hải Quân và các đập chắn trên lưu vực sông Cái khi xét đến nguồn cung cấp vật liệu bồi tích
